Is Dungeon Crawler Carl for kids?

No. Dungeon Crawler Carl is adult fiction: graphic violence, constant profanity, and sexual humor. Common Sense Media says 16+. The publisher says 18+.

No

Dungeon Crawler Carl is adult fiction. The jokes are the trap. A talking cat and a game show make it sound lighter than it is. It is not a middle-grade book, and it is not a young-adult series with a few swears.

What the ratings say

Common Sense Media rates the first book 16+ and notes that the publisher recommends 18+. That matches how readers talk about it. Plenty of older teens handle it. Younger kids should not be handed it because the cover looks like a game.

What is actually in it

Graphic violence. Constant profanity. Crude sexual humor. Body horror. The story is about an alien corporation killing almost everyone on Earth and broadcasting the survivors for sport. The comedy does not cancel that. This page is not going to list scenes. If you need the plot, you are on the wrong page. Read the books in order yourself.

The show will not sand this off by default

The Peacock series is live action, from the people who make adult comedy as well as science fiction. Nothing announced as of October 4, 2026 says it will be cut down for children. Check the TV page when a rating exists. Until then, assume the show is for the same people as the books.

The audiobook is the same text, performed. Jeff Hays does not make it gentler.

If you wanted something in the same aisle that is actually for younger readers, this is the wrong series, and this site is not going to pretend otherwise.
