Peacock has a straight-to-series order. There is no premiere date. Nobody has been cast as Carl. Jeff Hays, who narrates the audiobooks, will voice Princess Donut. Chris Yost and Eric Heisserer are co-showrunners. That is the whole present tense. Everything below is how it got here. This page does not describe the plot.
Who is making it
Seth MacFarlane's Fuzzy Door and Universal Global Television. Matt Dinniman is a co-executive producer. Erica Huggins and Rachel Hargreaves-Heald produce with MacFarlane. The series is live action. Dinniman has said it will not be a scene-for-scene retelling, because each book would be multiple seasons, and that Carl and Donut have to stay close to the books.
Timeline
- August 2024: Universal International Studios and Fuzzy Door acquire the rights. Christopher Yost is the writer.
- February 28, 2026: Dinniman tells Variety that Yost has written a few episodes, a streamer has the rights but has not been named, and he will believe the show when he sees it.
- June 18, 2026: Deadline reports Peacock's straight-to-series order. Dinniman announces it the same day and points people to a San Diego Comic-Con panel with Yost.
- July 27, 2026: At Comic-Con, Jeff Hays is confirmed as the voice of Princess Donut. Variety quotes Dinniman saying the production is listening to fans.
- August 21, 2026: Variety and Deadline name Eric Heisserer co-showrunner with Yost. Heisserer created Shadow and Bone and wrote Arrival. Yost has written Thor films and worked on The Mandalorian.
What is still missing
A face for Carl. A date. A trailer. A decision you can watch. Casting rumors are not news until a trade or Dinniman says the name. When one of those lands, the status at the top of this page changes, and the item also runs on Latest.
The books are ahead of the show and they are not a children's series. If you are starting from the adaptation, read the books in order and check whether it is for kids before you assume the tone.
Hays already did this story once, alone, on audio. That version is a different product from the show.
