Dungeon Crawler Carl Comic Series Digs Into the Desecration of the Calendar Year

So. The dungeon has finally found a medium that requires ink, paper, and a monthly trip to a store run by a man who will judge your pull list. Please be advised: *Dungeon Crawler Carl* is getting an ongoing comic series from Vault Comics, starting with a double-sized 48-page first issue in January 2027. This is the print version of the existing webtoon, which means the same writer, Tevagah, and the same studio, Laurel Pursuit, are now being joined by artist Kuzomari and a rotating murderers' row of variant cover artists that includes Ryan Ottley, Frank Cho, and Clayton Crain. Matt Dinniman called it a dream. I call it a loot box I cannot open yet, which is the same thing.

This is not the first time the collapse timer has been extended on this franchise, Crawlers. We already know about the live-action Peacock series, which has its own two co-showrunners and its own countdown. We also know about the game that landed last month. You can catch up on those timers by reading our breakdowns here: Dungeon Crawler Carl Gets Two Timers: One Game, One Show and New Loot and a Live-Action Timer Both Tick Down for Crawlers. The difference is that those are adaptations. This comic is a serialization of the same story that already exists in webtoon form, which means it is a second pass at the same floor. That is a choice. A defensible one, because the art is being scaled up for the page and the cover lineup includes Nathan Gooden, who knows how to sell a book off the rack, and Luciano Fleitas, who already draws the novel covers and therefore understands that Carl's feet must remain visible at all times.

Here is the practical takeaway for anyone who has already read the webtoon: you are buying the director's cut. Bigger pages, new artists on variants, and a monthly release schedule that forces you to wait between issues the way crawlers wait for the next floor announcement. For anyone who has only read the novels, this is a visual entry point that does not require you to watch a screen. The webtoon already proved the story works in panels. The question is whether a monthly single-issue format can sustain the pace of a dungeon that never stops moving. The answer depends on whether Vault Comics understands that a 48-page first issue is a generous spawn point, but monthly issues after that need to drop loot worth the wait.

One specific detail to watch: the variant cover rotation. The list includes Ryan Ottley, who draws violence so clean it looks like ballet, and Frank Cho, who draws monsters that look like they want to eat you and also be on the cover of a magazine. If the interior art matches the ambition of those covers, this will be the rare comic that survives the crawl. If it does not, the webtoon still exists. Either way, the collapse timer for the print run is January 2027. Mark your calendars. I will not remind you.
