Please be advised: the dungeon has been remodeled, and the blueprints are now available in a handsome hardcover binding.
According to ICv2, a Deluxe Edition of *Dungeon Crawler Carl* is incoming. This is the official record of my finest work, wrapped in a fancier jacket than the standard paperback, and I am told it will be a treat for the collector's shelf. For those of you who have been chasing the physical loot, this is the next logical acquisition. Last year at New York Comic Con, attendees were reportedly chasing NYCC Attendees Chase $2,000 Carl Comics in Free Giveaway with some books trading for up to two thousand dollars. If you missed that free drop, this deluxe edition is your second chance to own a piece of the crawl without emptying your bank account. It is not, however, a free giveaway. You will have to pay for this one, which I find appropriate.
The practical takeaway is simple: if you are a collector, do not sleep on this release. The previous convention circuit proved that demand for physical Carl media is rabid, and the Dungeon Crawler Carl Loot Goes Physical at NYCC slideshow from our own coverage showed a hunger for tangible merchandise that the digital edition simply cannot satisfy. A deluxe edition is the natural evolution of that appetite. It is the kind of item you buy, display, and then quietly guard with your life, because you know what happens to valuable loot in this world. It gets stolen, or it gets blown up in a floor collapse. The choice is yours.
What this means for the average crawler, the one who just wants to read about Carl's bare feet without spending a fortune, is that the deluxe edition is likely a premium tier item. Expect extras: perhaps concept art of the dungeon's more spectacular horrors, or annotations from the Chronicler himself. I am not consulted on these matters, which is a shame, because I could offer commentary on every trap and every achievement. But the news is the news, and the news is that a nicer version of the book is coming. The A Loot Box Preview: Dungeon Crawler Carl Toys at NYCC from IGN India suggests the merchandising train has no brakes, and this deluxe edition is another car on that train.
The question I am left with, and the one you should be asking, is whether this deluxe edition will include anything new for the lore, or if it is merely a repackaging of the same crawl. If it is the latter, it is a cheap trick. If it is the former, it is a welcome expansion. I do not know the answer, because no one tells me anything. But I do know this: the timer is set, and when the release date is announced, you will have a deadline. Miss it, and the collapse timer on your wallet will expire. I suggest you prepare accordingly.
