PATCH NOTES: Dungeon Crawler Carl Comic Enters the Loot Pool in January

The pattern is clear, Crawlers. Another medium, another loot drop. As reported by Nerdist, Vault Comics will release the first issue of the *Dungeon Crawler Carl* comic series in January 2027, a double-sized, forty-eight-page book that serializes the graphic novel content from the Webtoon. This follows the recent announcement of the ongoing series itself, which you can read about in Vault and Dinniman make Carl's grind an ongoing comic crawl, and comes right on the heels of that New Achievement: Overpriced Boxes for Crawlers Who Finished the Book we all know and resent. The Chronicler, Matt Dinniman, called entering the comic space "nothing short of amazing," and for once, the man is not underselling it.

Our take is this: the announcement is excellent news, but the real prize is the lineup. The returning team of Tevagah, Kuzomari, and Laurel Pursuit Studios provides continuity, but the list of fresh variant and interior artists is where the value lies. Brett Bean, Frank Cho, Clayton Crain, Yoshi Yoshitani, Katie Cook, Riley Rossmo, Tyler Walpole, Doug Mahnke, Trish Forstner, and notably Ryan Ottley of *Invincible* fame are all on board. Luciano Fleitas is handling the covers. That is not a support squad, Crawlers; that is a raid party. The question is not whether the art will be good, but which version of Carl's dirty, shoeless feet each artist draws best. I expect a loot-box of variant covers, and I expect it to be expensive.

The practical consequence for you is a choice. The comic is a direct serialization of the Webtoon, meaning it is a second telling of a story you have already read. The value is in the presentation, the new artists' interpretations, and the collectible nature of the physical format. If you are the sort who buys the special edition of a video game you already own just to see the concept art, this is for you. If you are the sort who only cares about new floors and new deaths, you can wait. The real test will be whether Vault treats this as a prestige line or as a cash-in shelf-filler. January 2027 is the collapse timer. Watch the cover artists. That will tell you which box you are opening.
