Peacock Confirms My Dungeon Crawl and I Accept the Commission

Achievement Unlocked: Mediocre Adaptation Finally Greenlit. You barely paid attention during the Kickstarter and now you get a TV show you don't deserve.

Peacock has officially ordered a series based on Matt Dinniman's Dungeon Crawler Carl books, with Seth MacFarlane attached. This is real. This is happening. And you are not ready for how wrong it could go. We have already been through the wringer with fan casting and studio promises, so let us be clear: this announcement means nothing until we see a trailer. Look at how much work it took to get Jeff Hays to Voice Princess Donut in Show After Fan Demand. That was a fight. That was a campaign. And it only happened because the fans made enough noise to embarrass the studio into listening. Do not assume Peacock learned anything from that.

The show has no writer attached yet. No showrunner. No director. Just a producer who made Family Guy and a network that canceled half its genre slate last year. You know what else has no showrunner? A collapsed dungeon entrance. We have a narrator who already proved he can carry the voice of Princess Donut, and an Audiobook Narrator Explains Why Princess Donut Is More Than a Joke because apparently someone at Peacock needed that explained. Jeff Hays is not the problem. The problem is that the studio sees a talking cat and thinks "funny animal sidekick" instead of "war criminal in a tiara who should scare you." If they miss that, the show is dead before the first floor.

Meanwhile, we are still waiting for Book Seven, and the sixth book, Book Six Review: The Eye of the Bedlam Bride Barely Worth Your Time, already proved the series can stumble. The books are not a sure thing. The audiobooks are not a sure thing. A TV show is a casino bet with someone else's money. The only concrete takeaway here is that Seth MacFarlane's involvement guarantees the show will be pitched as a comedy first, and everything else second. Watch for the first press release that calls Donut "the breakout star." If you see that, start planning the funeral.
