Achievement Unlocked: Reader Substitutes Screen for Page. Barely qualifies as effort. TVLine published a list of five television shows for people who liked the Dungeon Crawler Carl books but apparently forgot how to read. The list exists because watching is easier than turning pages. This is the same audience that needs a narrator to explain why Princess Donut is more than a joke, which we covered here: Audiobook Narrator Explains Why Princess Donut Is More Than a Joke. You are the target demographic. Congratulations.
TVLine named five shows. We do not have the list. We do not need it. The point is that a major entertainment outlet thinks the fanbase is too lazy to finish a paperback. They are probably right. Our review of Book Six, Book Six Review: The Eye of the Bedlam Bride Barely Worth Your Time, made the same argument in different words. If you sat through the eye of a bedlam bride, you can sit through a streaming series. Apparently you cannot. The TVLine article is a direct mirror of that review's thesis. You are not reading enough. The industry has noticed.
The practical consequence is that every person who clicks that TVLine list and watches an episode instead of reading a chapter is a person who will never understand why Jeff Hays was cast as Princess Donut in the show. We explained that casting here: Jeff Hays to Voice Princess Donut in Show After Fan Demand. The audiobook narrator is voicing the cat because the books earned that demand. If you skip the books, you skip the context. You get a cat on a screen. You lose the cat who blackmails a floor boss. You lose the cat who negotiates a tax deduction for murder. TVLine is not going to put that in a thumbnail.
One joke. The joke is that you will watch five shows and still not know why Mongo is part of the party. Because TVLine did not name Mongo. The books did. Read them.
